hey the final looks great I love it. can u tell us how the render is done about the lighting and stuff. I really like the image. keep up the good work.

Cheers Darecarce

well its pretty straight foeward really no big deal. There was a one key light (directional) for my sunlight and shadow direction, and then a couple of spotlights, one below the craft to lighten the underside a bit then the other towards the back of it. Light colors were blue for the main and then the spots were the same color as the background. I then threw in a desert hdr image on a low setting to soften the image and get a global feel to it. I then rendered out several passes for the ship: diffuse, spec, reflect, AO, AE and Zdepth then used a fluid for the fog, and an also an N-Particle for the lower dust around the ship.

I know I said it was straight forward but there was alot of time testing shaders and getting the right lighting, plus tweaking textures. The shaders on the craft were a mix of blinn and MIA material X, the dust had a volume shader on it with a hi phong coeffiency setting to get more depth on the dust. The textures on the mountain side are actually a lot of photoshop matte painting work as I felt the textures I had done for the set previously wern't actually that good in my opinion

Hope that helps
Jay

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

NextDesign 06-11-2011 11:40 PM

Code:

for (int i = 0; i < 9999; i++)
{
    if ((i % 2) == 0)
        print("Y");
    else
        print("A");
}

I win.

stwert 07-11-2011 01:01 AM

Code:

while (int i = 0; i < 1; i--){
print "YA";
}

You lose...

Chirone 07-11-2011 01:36 AM

eeeh? I'm sure it doesn't count if you just continuously print YA since that's not the same as YAY or YAAAAAAY or equivalent...
Code:

printf("Y")
for(int i = 0; i < MAX_INTEGER; i++) printf("A");
printf("Y!")

THREAD REVIVAL!!!.........

So a quick run down of this project....

I have wasted over a year of doing nothing on this , because I was ill advised. Some interest was shown in it to become a movie, yes a 3d animated one. I even met the director and signed a contract and took all their advice. It came to nothing. So after a heated discussion with said party I told them to shove it and not contact me again on the project.

So where does that put me now? Well after a year of not looking at it, Ive gone over the content/assets and stuff and frankly it looks dated...so Im currently revamping and adding detail. Sounds mad but thats progress. Im trying to push as much as I can for a May 2014 release of the new look 3d comic...and am going to try and push everything out and finish the whole thing by the end of 2015...so very busy on new story boards over this christmas period...

so the revamping continues with the first asset almost coming to the end of completion...Im just adding detailed panels and greebles...

cheers
Jay
