WOW,

Thats some excellent work

Mayaniac 27-04-2010 03:41 PM

Very nice. Love the Cadbury's Trailer. Seen that a couple time on TV and thought it was really cool.

So, I'm assuming this was done by the studio you work for?
What role did you play? I'm very interested in the process.

Nice work man.

honestdom 27-04-2010 09:24 PM

cheers, i came in late on the cadburys ad and only really did the chocolate bar at the end. On the sunflowers i made blend shapes for the different models and did various higher and lower res models. I am still a junior artist so i kinda get the boring jobs like matchmove and blend shapes and layout stuff but its still really enjoyable working. I learn stuff all the time.

what process would you like to know about?

Mayaniac 28-04-2010 10:57 AM

I was wondering about the compositing, how much of the original footage was chocolate (in the bowls) and how much was CG.

Plus, the giant bubble of chocolate, was that all done with fluid effects? Or was it just Geo with lots of funky texturing/displacement?

It's a well made Ad indeed, there is only one but that has nothing to do with the quality of the ad and that is that the ad has absolutely nothing to do with what Cadbury does, I don't come from the UK, so I had to google Cadbury and it looks like they make chocolate??
And it isn't even mentioned in the ad.

Again it has nothing to do with the quality you guys delivered I am just wondering that's all.

This is for instance something that got made here in the Netherlands , this brings the message a lot clearer I think:

I don't know how high up you are in the hierarchy at MPC Hammer, but maybe you guys can do a parody on Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory( somewhere along the line of a drunken Santa kicking around his elves versus the happy santa ;) )

Again lovely work:beer:

honestdom 15-08-2010 03:17 PM

actually this ad was designed to promote games, not chocolate. cadburys are 2012 sponsors, i guess thats where they were going with this.

post production companies dont come up with the ideas for commercials, we just make them.
you have ad agencies which work with creatives and directors to come up an idea that suits the client.

jjmacky88 15-08-2010 09:53 PM

awesome stuff, great job

marlonjohn 11-09-2010 04:48 PM

Funny enough, i seem to see that cadbury ad all the time on commercials these days here in aus. good to know someone from SM worked on it :) nice job!

honestdom 06-12-2010 01:28 PM

EDIT: WOW man love the fish....just spooted your note/link...that is cool man...dig the vibes too!

honestdom 24-02-2011 12:36 AM

cool glad you like them.
yeah the break down might be interesting for some people here. The VES was for outstanding animated commercial or something like that. pretty cool.

honestdom 27-02-2011 05:46 PM

i'm surprised that no one seems interested in the breakdown or has any questions about how any of this was made. :nerd:

I'd be willing to answer any questions people might have about any of this or the workflow or whatever. I don't want to come across as a loser, just owe a lot to simplymaya and wanted to share. :)

cheers

bullet1968 27-02-2011 06:07 PM

Man you are NOT coming across as a loser mate...no way. I would be interested dom but didnt ask simply because most of it would go over my little brain... LOL...unless of course you can put it in laymans terms...

cheers bullet

Reggie69 11-03-2011 03:16 PM

The breakdown was amazing.. really liked the way they've done the duck putting its head under water.
One thing I did notice was the amount of render passes it takes, and thats before breaking the model down... (no chance of my PC rendering that amount before forever..lol)
If you dont mind me asking how long have you been with MCP, and the almighty question... how did you get the job..? (i.e. showreel/just applied/done a course etc.)

honestdom 09-05-2011 07:52 PM

hey sorry i missed this reply. I've been at MPC for just over 2 years. I learned 3D in late 2008. I went to Escape Studios. I had done a fine art degree previously. Got a job as a runner a few weeks after I finished at escape ( jan '09) and worked my way into 3D from there.

honestdom 09-05-2011 07:54 PM

llllllllllllllllllll

mastone 09-05-2011 08:19 PM

Great shading there man ( I have been fiddling with renderman myself as well ;) ), the only thing that seems off is the lipsynce there is something wrong with it not hitting the phonemes or maybe to subtle at a larger distance from camera ( in close ups it does work okay).
Edit:
At a second glance I think the audio is out of sync with the lipsynce ( or viceversa whatever you prefer :) )

honestdom 09-05-2011 09:05 PM

haha, thanks for the comments. They are perhaps better directed at the people who did the audio, but glad you like the shading.

What do you think of renderman then?

mastone 12-05-2011 05:43 PM

I really like renderman, the way it works really speaks to me somehow, amazing speed and quality with displacement, DOF, Motionblur.
I have the luck that I have Renderman Studio so I sometimes play with SLIM and IT as well

Nilla 12-05-2011 06:34 PM

It's sooo fluffy :playfull: I really want one now. Great character and the fur looks so cuddly, well done.

Nilla

honestdom 06-06-2011 03:54 PM
