character development

Just started my work in progress, just wondering does the the hand look ok...I am thinking more of the spaces between the fingers??

Ideally I want to rig the character and animate afterwards it is in its low poly stages at present ?

daverave 08-06-2010 10:03 PM

Hi silverspawn
I dont know if you are going to model this totaly in maya but if so you should have a bit more polys, each finger having six sides not four and you thumb should be at the side of the hand........dave

Edit:sorry did not answer you question I think it will be a case what detail you need to animate you scene

silverspawn 08-06-2010 10:16 PM

Yes this will be totally modelled in maya, sorry the shot is a little poor, the character is in his block stages at ther moment, so there is no detail at all, the fingers do actually have 6 sides is just the angle I have took the shot.....but I will gladly post more shot as and when I add more detail :)

Just want to make sure I am going about this in the right way...so there is no odd creases when I hopefully get round to animate it .

This is what I have so far:)

NextDesign 09-06-2010 05:08 AM

Looks good for blocking. Make sure you use references though. This is also a good place to start taking a look into how you want your edge loops to flow, as you see, at the moment the shoulders are only being defined by one edge.

Keep going!

Hiya Jason. Good to see you on here again. It's been a while. Keep up the good work

Looking good, looks like you have a poly with more than 4 side hope you dont mind but add a fix (add edge in green, delete edge in red), try making poly with four sides if you can............dave

silverspawn 11-06-2010 06:01 PM

Thanks Dave

Did not notice till you pointed it out...but followed what you added and corrected it :)

I willpost more as it develops:)

daverave 11-06-2010 06:16 PM

Check out the topology thread sticky at the top of this forum.

There are lots of examples of topology and edge lay out in there that should get you going.

Cheers

Ahh just beat me. Here you go. Add more loops if necessary. This layout makes it easy to tweak, and easy to add in additional detail.

What type of references are you using?

:)

silverspawn 14-06-2010 07:53 PM

my references unfortunately are not hi res pictures so the detail on my head is based on references of facial features on goole pics...not the best way to model I know, but for me it gives me a chance to use my own idea of what type of nose and mouth I would like to add...I guess more hybrid :)

Thnanx next that is helpful :)

daverave 14-06-2010 08:01 PM

Hi silverspawn
You might want to stick some tempery eye ball in so you can adjust your polys............dave

silverspawn 14-06-2010 08:06 PM

Thanks ...did not think of that :)

daverave 15-06-2010 10:19 PM

Hi silverspawn
I think you need to move the eye farward and increase the size then start adjusting you polys to match..........you will get there............dave

NextDesign 16-06-2010 05:31 PM

Your proportions are incorrect. Put an image plane behind the head, and model off that. It's easier to do it then.

Thnaks dave corrected it again :)

Next ...these are the references images I am going off, I just do not diplay them in perspective view only in side and front view though like I mentioned are not hi res.

but the proportions from my newbie view seem to match up with the images I have .

gster123 17-06-2010 08:36 AM

The problem that your getting is quite common for people new th characters and head creation.

You can get your model to match refs no probs but what you need to do is get out of the orthgraphic views and use the perspective view more and judge your character that way rarther than matching the orthos perfectly.

daverave 18-06-2010 11:35 AM

Hi silverspawn
Not looking to bad, still needs tweeking around the eyes (eye lids) laughter line and top forhead. I think you are going to have to redo the ear, google ear images...........dave

on your view panel's toolbar, click on the button with the checkered board pattern (see image). You can also press the number 6 with your mouse cursor over the view panel you want to see textures in.

silverspawn 12-07-2010 12:17 PM

Thanks again perfecto...just ran into a another doddle with my sculpt geometry tool it is not working for some reason ??

any ideas

Perfecto 12-07-2010 02:59 PM

What issue are you having exactly? To start off, make sure you have the items you want to sculpt selected first, then click on the sculpt tool. You may need to increase the Max Displacement value in the sculpt tool settings to see results.

silverspawn 12-07-2010 05:02 PM

got it working..must of been a glitch when I shut maya down than restarted it, it started to work again. :)

Thnaks for the sharp response.
