Well here`s not to disappoint .......

Going to make something I designed back in 2005 for www.He-Man.org. They had some monthly challenges re-designing the old toys for the new generation after the start of the 2002 TV show. At the time I thought it was so cool - then I saw an ep of Battlestar - stole a lot of my thunder. Here, see what I mean .....

So now I`m giving it the 3D touch.

Everyone knows how much I love He-Man here, so I thought why not.
The Horde was a group of toys for Heman, which got put into She-Ra tv show because the Heman cartoon was being killed off. These evil robots ran the planet and needed to get about fast to keep a evil rain over everybody. The idea was that there would be red lights between the panels so when flying over head it would look like the Horde Logo, scaring the people to thinking that they were always watching.

Well blocked out the main shapes.

Making the wing flat for now and will curve them in to shape at a later stage, but they are the same shape as the horde logo - With them flat its making modelling a little easier for now. Think it will be more high poly than low - want lots of nice little details in there. Not sure yet if I am going to do cockpit for challenge maybe later on, but def no driver yet.

Been looking at the cylon raiders a lot and man I feel so ripped off.

Got the top part of the main body done - mostly panels which were tricky to get in the right places - 5 each side and 3 on top. Did give the tail fin a go but I think im too tired now (it does not look good) and want to go kill stuff on dead space 2.

Polys for now - not a nurbs fan - but I tend to use them for stuff like cables so not ruling them out

Got the shell of the main part of the ship almost sorted (hull going into the side bits at mo) and a lot happier with the fin. Need some detail to join the side bits to the main part and then some way of joining the fin to the back. Also need to think of how this sits when still (wheels/under carage)

Got the main shape of the wings done and tweaked the hell out of the panels all around the ship. Got some of the gears done for the fin as well. Also start the parts needed to open the cockpit.

Going to keep the wings flat - I just think they look better that way. Did play with the idea to make it more bat like, but did not think it gives the idea of speed.

Really boring night for me - GF out, not in to American Football, and seen all the films on the movie channels and not in the mood for dead space 2 - so more work on my baby it was. Added some engines and some detail to the rear of the ship - added the bombs and the guns. I think for the exterior all I need now is landing gear.

Putting some work together as I might be going on a VFX course at Escape Studios in London as I sick of being out of 3D work.

So if you dont see any update for a few days its not because I have dropped out.

Funny you say that - this ones a render but the wire frame is still there - But its the way I normally work in W.I.P`s. There is no point in renders until the model is almost finished and testing textures.

Lots of work on the underside of the ship after my little break - The guns and bombs are now gone (did not like them) and I really not happy with the wings. Going away from my concept a little now, that design is quite a few years old now.

I really think you should keep the wings, but not have them flare out nearly as much as your original design has them. That way they don't overpower ( visually ) the main mart of the ship.

The wings and shape are staying just going to rebuild them in a different way. The whole point of the ship is to struck the fear into people with the logo

Made all the panels now for the wings and calling it a night - some tweaks need in places but overall they look alot better - even got a slight bend in there so closer to the first concepts now.

Well I added some lights and some blinn`s to the scene and this is what I got

As you can probably guess quite happy with the results but it has shown up one or two problem areas that I`m going to have to fix.

But render times were in the seconds = me very happy

Honest to god they are just some simply blinn`s - there are 6 area light all set to quite low values and a white background (dome with a white surface shadder)

I was really shocked how good it came out - Playing about with the colours at the mo and making some parts non reflective - going to build the inner parts tonight after applying for some jobs.

Top notch Tweety; however, I think there are a couple of things that could be changed IMO. That squiggly line down the center of the wings, It doesn't seem to fit the over-all design of the ship very well. And the wings seem a little thick.

Anyway, looks alot better than my entry. LOL, maybe I should withdraw from the challenge, which probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Looking at some ref of plains wings are thicker than I thought but making the panels out of the original wing has thickened them up a great deal. The line down the wing and the little dents in the front dome are the things I noticed in the above post - I want to keep the line down the centre of the wing just not have it that thick.

Nar man don`t give up - that not the way to play this game.

Hoping this work - my video I set to render while out today - has some of the fixes (the noise area) just need to do a little more (mostly to the wings) but this really does show of the model.

dude, looks neat, I would perhaps reduce the thickness of the wings - ya know power to weight ratio and all that, plus it would make it sharper looking too

Thanks for all the kinds words - chucked myself into this one 110% and think its paying off.

Been tweaking and tweaking the wings today - they are about the third of the thickness now and I`m just sorting out the detail lines and may add some bolts on there - but they are looking a little silly right now (so no render of them hehe).
