Thanks Chirone, I was planning on fixing the hands soon. I tried again at the crowbar, and thanks to dave and bullet I think it's going to look better this time. But I should probably quit the texturing for now and get back to the modelling, cause there's lots to add and fix yet.
|
Ended up doing just a smooth on the hands (1 div), and it's "only" 624 per hand still, I can ditch some edge loops if necessary. This is pretty much all I had time to do today, I don't know where to find more time :)
http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9...ndskeleton.png The skeleton is mostly just for posing, but I think it would be fun to animate in the future too. |
my domain doesnt allow me to view your images which really sucks
|
Ah, sorry murambi, I don't suppose they show up on my blog, do they? Biocinematics.com (Probably not, since they're the same source, but maybe)
|
Well sorry for the long delay between posting... but I bound the hands, set up a simple fist curl attribute, worked on the HEV suit and added a dash of color just so you can see where things are going. Hopefully it's starting to look a bit more like Gordon. Of course the iconic lambda is missing, but these are just placeholder textures.

He he he he he looks good mate...love it!
cheers bullet |
it looks so AWESOME!!!
it looks like there should be something inside his mouth so that you dont see the inside... like giant teeth or a tongue |
Hi Stwert
The hand look much better but still need to iron out the mouth and eye area, bevel is your best bet as you can play around with the offset then tidy up the mesh after.......dave |
Thanks guys :)
Chirone, I did add a tongue, but it's not visible atm. I'm thinking for the final pose (if it's not an animation) I'll probably have his mouth more closed except with a bit of a snarl, showing teeth on one side. Dave, allow me to quote myself ;) Quote:
I'm still stuck between the gravity gun and the crowbar. I like the crowbar, because it's more iconic, however the gravity gun is just a bit more awesome. Although the crowbar I think has better posing potential. Yet the gravity gun would make a sweet animation.:help: |

That put me in my place Stwert LOL. Try improving the texture on the crow bar, try one of the distortion filters (ocean ripple for a start) on the red colour to brake it up. If its not working for you I will see if I can do a crow bar with texture and see what you think..........dave
Edit: This is my first try. If im getting to much Stwert tell me to **** of...:) |
Thanks Dave, that looks pretty nice. I tried using the bevel some on the crowbar, but it just gives you a bunch of frustrating tris everywhere. How do you go about cleaning up after a bevel?
Anyway, I worked on the head some more, how is this for a smoother shape? http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/1...rdontemp02.png |

something like this stwert?? I wouldnt worry too much about tri's...not in this case, you wont see them really.
cheers bullet EDIT: some of the verts need tweaking near the ends.... |
I think your model is comming along nicely as is Stwert, the way you are modelling it would be better if you want to animate it. But if you want to show me some of the problem tri's I would show you how to fix for future use.............dave
|
I know I gotta get a move on on this... a small update:
http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/3250/gordontex03.png |
still awesome!
when is he getting pupils? |
Probably today... I made some earlier, but the UV map was just slightly stretched and made the pupils look like crap. I'll fix the UV mapping and give the eyes a retry.
|
remember Stwert this is not a smoothed model but your uv are smoothed as default, I had to harden the top edge for that crow bar because of stretching..........dave
|
What do you mean by the UVs being smoothed by default?
|
If you go to polysrfaceshape then down to smooth mesh click on that then extra control comes up, click on that and you will see smooth uvs ticked.........dave
|
Ok, I see, but since nothing is smoothed (except the hands) I don't see how that affects the UVs on the face.
|
Its only some thing to be aware of. If you are getting any problem when uv i.e very dark areas on the checked board pattern or seam that dont line up switch that off or harden or soften edges, If you have layed the uvs out corretly there should be no stretching on a none smooth mesh.........dave
|
Another small update, just doing geometry tweaks concurrently with texturing...
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6269/gordontex04.png I think this will be the expression on the mouth, a little less cartoony, hopefully more like gordon. |
LOL fun character man ;)
|
Yeah, looking great stwert, I haven't had time to go online for a while so it's nice to see the progress everyone is making!
|
Thanks guys, hope I can finish it the way I'm picturing in my head.
|
Alright, I'm just doing some test renders now, I'll get my entry up in the next little bit. I guess I've got the last midnight of pretty much everyone here, so hope nobody minds my extra couple hours :) I figure over a whole month it's not much of an advantage, and anyway, all the submissions so far have been super awesome, I'm really impressed.
|
And the final... I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, and I learned a whole lot with this project.
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/427...ewormfinal.png Final polycount was 3510 faces. I'm hoping to render out a turntable video in the near future, but this will be my submission image. |
".....so hope nobody minds my extra couple hours.... "
I don't ;) looks nice |
