hi, i need to tap into your vast experience here. yes, it involves our old topic of cutting holes into curved surfaces. i've hit one that is going to cost me my last few hairs.

i need to cut the hole for the canon in the wing root. the first image is where the hole is supposed to go. second image is what i've cut. but image 3 shows the two "ridges" that formed. how to get rid of them? :help:

I would put in another edge going around the wing that should give you more support in that area...........dave

that ridge is being formed because you have two horizontal edges close together forming a crease. grab a screen shot before smoothing so I can see whats going on.

so do what dave says and add another edge in the middle and then using my excellent steady handed paint over you can pull the center verts away along the surface normals to remove the pinching.

cheers

I have attached a non-pulsey version of my shaky paint over that hopefully makes more sense. lol

bullet1968 20-11-2011 12:30 AM

yeh what dave and rick said. You could, after you put the extra edge loop in...extrude the 4 faces inwards...adjust the verts to make them more square, extrude 1 more time to create a clamping edge then delete the 4 faces. Then extrude inwards to make the canon hole or outwards.

EDIT...that didnt work for me?? it did last time LOL

cheers bullet

thanks a million dave, rick and bullet.
i just had a nightmare vision. modeling the holes of a curved cheese grater.
