The Army - Basura3d

I was thinking about a helicopter but when I saw it was already being made so I decided doing a harrier... Lot's of rounded shapes so it should get me jumpstarted into Maya... What do you think? Maybe to hard as a first project?

Well, I think I'm gonna give it a shot... So I started doing the lovely plane setup (courtesy of some wonderful video tutorials)... Now I'm thinking about what method to use... hmmmmm... I'm used to polys so I think I will start with that... Although I should try new stuff...
|
nice idea maybe a bit to hard for a first project but you'll learn new things look forward to see how you go

ok, started with half a polysphere where scaled it as the front... Think I'm gonna edge extrude it all the way to the back so I can have some shape to work from...
|
cool !! i love that plane! hope you can get this model done Basura3d
|
I was just going to start modeling one of those for my animation! Great start, good luck, nice subject choice.
Brian |
thx! now I would like know how to chamfer edges... I use it all the time in Max, maybe there is something similar in Maya?

Ok, not much of a progress but I continued with the engines... Just a torus I cut in half and started to extrude edges...
|
Looks like a nice choice, looking forward to seeing your progress.
|
no fair having images to model off of, some one find me apache images.
|
Good Luck! Basura3d and Ultragames :D
|
can you send me a copy if your images, I want to model that plane also, are you from Philipines?
|
This is harder than I thought... lot of vertex pushing...
Ultragames, I find it funny saying is not fair using images to model of and then asking for them... marucot, I'm not from the philipines, I'm from Chile but I live in Sweden. I can give you the images but I would apreciate if you could model something else... At least for the competition. It's hard enough modeling the sucker but having somebody to compete against would just be to much for my poor heart ;) If you would have read the topic thread you would have seen that Emo put a really great site with all kinds of blueprints, there's where I found these... http://www.onnovanbraam.com/index.php?main=blueprints |

Forgot to show you the progress... Starting with the canopy of the cockpit... I wish I would have more time to model this, only giving each update about 15 minutes, damn work ;)

Basura3d
I agree with you WORK is a four letter word that should be banned. Work always gets in the way of having fun. |
its not fair that you have them and I dont. :D Looked all over the damn net, can't find a thing like that. Anyone wanna find me some?
|
Can you PLEASE look at the link I put there? Or do you expect somebody to download them for you?

And the daily 15 minute update... Just connected the cockpit with the front fuselage. Learned the append to polygon tool today.

And the daily update... This time 30 minutes went in to the model but it doesn't look like it... Got stuck with the litlle vent on the engine...

Finally an update... Between work and girlfriend, not much time has been given Maya/Harrier. And I got a bit stuck optimising the engine air intake to the fuselage... I modeled the turbine and the inside of the engine... Lots of vertice pushing...
And now I'm getting a bit stressed... Not much time left... I hope I don't have to texture it... yet. |

Now I've started with the wings. I had to extrude the fuselage back very roughly so I could get a sence of shape. I think I will have to optimise the wings to the fuselage to get the best result. Was kind of tired with the front part and although it's not finished I think that it would be better for me to get back to that later. Main priority now is to get the shape of the whole airplane and later add the nessesary details.

looking good mate!!! keep going mate

Looking good.
Modelling reminds me of my youth, (when I glued plastic models together.)... Like you... always I took my time to get it right. |
About the interior, Thats cool. If you are intersted in what I did, just send me an PM after the competition is over, and I will Send it back in a reply. Thanks,

Very sleek! When you texture this please give a blow by blow...I'm very interested in how this will be done.
