Realism - cb8rwh
ello,
well i thought i'd give this a shot - don't know how far i'll get but I am going to model my phone - yeah I know not very original - its an ericsson t65. |
Woohoo, go rich! Well, phones are cool :), if done right they can look really real. Just on this challenge, make sure that you remember 1 key factor, do it slowly and add TONS OF DETAIL. Maybe on the screen of the phone, you can put some cool pixelated image :).

Ello,
well I have started on the general shape of the phone. Looks rather crude at moment - but hey it's a start :) |

Looking good so far. :)

Yes, looks good.
Thanks for posting the texture layout. Good stuff. |

ello,
well here's the latest version - got a lot more texturing done - I finally figured out how to layout uvs and texture that way. Looking better but I am now trying to get the GI_Joe fake HDRI to work - without much success. |
Your labels seem to be out of focus.
I don't know if the following applies to your situation, but there is an option for using texturemaps in the material attributes, which can set the...um... whatsitcalled...um... blur? to none. That may help to get a crisper text on your model I think. |
cheers for that undseth - had a look and its the filter attribute in the file node that needs to be altered -looks much crisper now :)

here's a go at HDRI fake in GI_Joe
|
i prefer nokia :)
|
I really like the model.
The lighting seems a bit harsh on your render. Try playing with the settings...maybe tone it down a touch. Keep going! It's coming along great! |
Nice Model
Nice model! the dark blue texture has one small problem, though. the two colors used in your texture are too different. if you make them closer to being the same color, it will be a very subtle difference, but it won't look like one solid color. the way you have it now you can see that the texture is cg. also try adding a few smudges to the buttons- they're too clean! nice overall work. happy texturing/modeling!
|
carrot, I don't fully understand what you mean. do you mean the two colours used to make up the blue texture need to be closer together? At the moment I am using 1 colour for the blue with a slight bump map applied -I think I will have to change the bump tho. This might produce the effect you are talking about.
About the buttons, yeah I see what you mean, will def add some dirt :) thanks for the C&C. |
looking very cool mate!!!
nice work |
WOW, great job so far! I love the second last render you showed.. looking really nice. Maybe add a couple scratches to your phone just to give it a unique look (small ones). Very nice so far :D.

I would round the buttons a bit they seem to be very sharp on the edges.
Another thing regardig textures.. If you change the map type from quadratic to mipmap the texture files tend to be crispier and sharper.. Good work :) |
Nice model... i got the same phone :p not that i im happy with it :p
But i gotta say nice model :) |
i do not prefer the highlight...........

here is a bit of update - just round te edges of the buttons a bit - changed the hdri brightness - reduced it a lot!!
reduced the bump map on the body of the phone any comments welcome |
Hey, everything looks SO realistic.. just theres a few areas that need tweaking.. evertyhing but the top interface looks good. The buttons are a bit bright, as you may want to give them different settings to make those darker. Also, the navigation pad along with the screen is really nicely modelled.. but your lighting and textures are just not working. Its coming along though! Also, see if you can fix that poly down in the bottom left of your render.. its a bit rough there :). Great job though!
|
thanks M.
yeah I def need work on the textures, I think I have sorted the poly edge showing down the bottom right - just softened the normal more and it seems to have solved it (just rendering now to make sure) The lighting - I was messing with HDRI fake in GI_Joe but might remove it and just use normal lighting. |

messed with it a bit more - dulled down the buttons, tried to clean up the poly problem in the bottom left got rid of the HDRI fake - guess it wasn't right (I couldn't get it to look right anyway :( )
Still the mesh still needs a bit of work - I might have to convert to subds then crease some edges then convert back - but I don't know if I will lose the texture map or not? |
:| already looks SO much better! Lets see whats throwin me off. Hmm, first off that button in the top left of the phone is just not right... maybe play with that texture if you can. Also, the buttons are a lot better, but the color of the buttons doesnt look right (the light blue). Also, you see the talk, end talk, and navigate buttons? they kinda dont look right. Keep it up though, wonderful job so far! Just workon those buttons! :D.
|
thanks for the comments M, can you say why the buttons(navigate, talk, endtalk) don't look right?
I know what you mean aboyut the light blue colour on the buttons - i have messed with that colour an unbelievable amount - The problem is it is a layered shader with transparency through to the light blue coloured lambert shader underneath - can't seem to get it to look sharp or the right colour. Nevermind, I will continue to mess - Thanks again for the C&C realy apreciate it - it's kinda hard for me to look at it (looked at it so much!!) |
Wow, your job is so great ... ( it's in improvement from the first image)
But i think it'd be more realistic if you put some points of glow on the buttons to illustrate their material like metal or plastic .... just my subjective opinion , then. However, it attracted the first place, just go ahead. |

here's an update - messedaround with the textures of the buttons.
Perfect - cheers, will def add some sort of glow for the final render. M - the navigate buttons look strange because the texture is on a flat plane then the button shape is a transparent shader on top - as the buttons are modelled on the actual phone - not sure if I achieved the look totally but it's an effort of sorts :) |

slight update - added a bit of glow to the number buttons - to imitate the light coming from them - this is nearly finished for me - might mess around with DOF from a diff angle - to add to the final mix/render
C&C welcome |

here's a DOF shot - looks better than I thought it would :)
the glow on the buttons don't look right, but hat can be sorted - i hope- might have to remove it |
DOF....M told me something about it.
Looks much better with DOF. |
great work cb8rwh.
just out if interest what size is your texture map? It looks as though it could do with being a bit bigger. Just my thoughts Alan |
it's 1024*1024 - you reckon I should go to 2048?
|
1 Attachment(s)
here's another DOF - better than the first one (i think so anyway)
|
wow i missed that last few posts. NICE WORK!!! Looks great with the glow and DOF!!! I actually have NO crits for the latest render, better go work on my metal dude!
|
yeah definatley go for 2048, your map should always be twice as big as your object will appear on the screen (or something like that!) So yeh I would make a new map and make it 2048.
:) Alan |
