My Little Alien
Well I got tired of tinkering around with this, and since it was really just an exercise, I'm calling it done. :)
By the way it's completley procedural  http://users.eastlink.ca/~ebrooks/embryo.jpg |
That looks great, maybe a little shiny but great.
|
LOVE IT!!!
Great composition, and cool particulate matter floating around in there:) Were they 3d too? or a comp? Also, MR render? or Maya scanline? Great work! |
thanks rage and schmick
heres the scoop rage the particles are 3d but were rendered seperatley and comped in photoshop. The Embryo was rendered in MR, and the pipes in Maya. i just thought maya produced better pipes in that one case. but, this is probably because I don't know MR well enough. thanks again! oh, ps, any chance to get in the gallery with this one? |
Very good piece indeed!
I would say it qualifies for Gallery, however last word's Kevin's one. ;) |
oh it looks like a little duckie alien :)
great colors :) |
ACK!!! You could have given us 56ker a warning  Looks good though :) Did you use subsurface scattering on it?
|
Thanks guys.
Sorry Vampus, I think i might have uploaded the uncompressed version by mistake, I'll change that right now. As for SSS, i faked it ;) . |
Cheater ;)
|
great job man!!
well done!! |
Nice! and yucky too!
|
What is subsurface scattering????
BTW awesome work Blinn. |
Nice work!
|
Thanks alot!
drknow, to answer your question, heres a quote "All non-metallic materials are translucent to some degree. This means that light scatters inside the material before being either absorbed or leaving the material at a different location. This phenomenon is called subsurface scattering. […]" |
I figured it was something like that. Do you know of any tuts on this???
|
Well as for now, i dont believe there's a true SSS solution available for us Maya users :( . www.lightengine3d.com has a beta test of a plugin that alows SSS through a new shader, but it is limited to one lightsource and a 320*240 (or something like that) output resolution. I found it was possible to fake it, (with fast render times, that image might have taken 3 mins i think) using mental rays volumetric shaders. :
|
damn......ok.......I found a tut on sss, But my mental ray isnt showing up, so ill have to figure something out.

Hi DrKnow,
you could e.g. try this melscript from the author behind the G.I.Joe script... --> http://www.pixho.com click on the "toolbox"... select "mel scripts" an go down to where it says... "subSurfIllum shader mel script" to download it... here is also a bit more info about it.... --> http://www.3dluvr.com/pixho/toolbox/...lum_shader.htm regards Strarup |
Thanks man....that is cool. I owe you one:)
