Nov/Dec - Creature - SciFi - LauriePriest - Norm

Gona go for a sci fi character, not sure who yet, im gona draw out a few ideas and see what i like the best, good luck to all, this is my first comp in a while so lets hope it all goes well.
Good Luck to all!

Cant wait for who youre making..I cant make a decision who to make myself!

LauriePriest 03-11-2003 10:40 PM

Oke im gona do a Sci fi nazgul with dragon, should be fun, im gona spend a week or so on concept. Im planning to do a fully rigged one and the actual nazgul should be relatively easy (or easier) seeing as there is no head to model.

orgeeizm 04-11-2003 05:19 AM

Great! I was thinking of doing that too but didnt really get any ideas for it!. Looking forward to see some concepts. :)

I thought i might get a grip on the actualy creatures first, so i did a couple of sketches.. .. check it out... im starting to do sketches of the wring wraiths head underneath the big black cloke, i know its fantasy but i just want to make sure i can draw the characters before i mess them up sci fi style :D:

eh.. does this put it in more context:
its just a 3d sketch... concept... i may have fewer chunks that are larger.. just to give a gesture of somthing underneath the wraiths cloak took 5 mins.

EagleKing 05-11-2003 07:39 PM

ahhh...now I can see what the deformed earth is actually supposed to be :P

nice.............................................. ......

I like the dragon concept, looks like an interesting meld of science and fantasy. I still don't really get what the thing that looks like an exploded molecular structure is but I am sure it will all become clear.

mtmckinley 05-11-2003 11:44 PM

I think that's what he's going to use for the Nazgul's head under the cloak.

Witchy 05-11-2003 11:45 PM

Ohh ok, doh!

fredriksson 06-11-2003 12:05 AM

Cool concept.
I was thinking about doing something similar, but I changed my mind.

[icarus_uk] 06-11-2003 12:27 AM

I like the idea. Im little skeptical that you can make a dragon not look "fantasy", but I shall look forward to the results. Nice drawing of a wing, it looks fleshy, where as the head concept looks robotic..

LauriePriest 06-11-2003 07:56 AM

well the dragon is going to be mostly robotic and im going to have sections of the wraiths arm and chest ripped open so i can show the mechanical side of him too, im still rethinking alot of it so ill see what i come up with.

iron_tick 06-11-2003 02:13 PM

This is idea looks hot, i can't wait to see more.

here is update the one arm i spent time on i still have to add detail and variation on both sides of the cloak but its getting there, have to do both trouser legs and mechanical feed, mechanical left arm 1/4th cloaked, and im going to have wires runing out and through the cape probably, help needed tho, whats the best way to map somthing like this..duplicate and then avergae the verts a few times ... ?? need a bit of advice ive textured complex object thigns before but i just want to confirm my theories

quick GI render here, Crits pls ppl?

mtmckinley 07-11-2003 12:04 AM

Pretty neat, so far. :)

I'd probably make sure it's at its lowest resolution and do an auto-map. Then take those and adjust/sew/cut as needed. That's just how I do it though. When you increase the resolution, the UV map should still stick.

dave_baer 07-11-2003 04:52 AM

Nice rags. :D Keep it going!

Sil-Valeor 15-11-2003 03:40 PM

uh, that looks grat. And idea is also verry interesting. Keep it up!

GreyFox 15-11-2003 05:33 PM

Interesting concept, looking forward to see the final results :)

LauriePriest 08-12-2003 08:25 AM

Oke allready running against heavy problems, 1) my graphics card is really embarassingly slow (too embarassing to mention its name) so that isnt helping 2) i have two coursework deadlines before christmas hollidays, im not sure what ill be able to get done before then but ill give it a shot if i can but i have my doubts if ill get it to a stage where its worth posting a final

Pony 08-12-2003 08:31 AM

are you useing nurbs ?? you could tern down the display quality and get much more responsivness..

the coursework.. can't do a think about that.. yuck !!

LauriePriest 08-12-2003 04:58 PM

yeh i could but there is alot of geomerty and if i want any chance of texturing.... its gona be hard
