PRS Guitar

1 Attachment(s)
Decided to take a break from modeling cars, so I chose to make a guitar. PRS Guitars are pretty and all, so I decided to make one. Here's how I am after about 1.5 hours or so. :)

twisteddragon33 23-12-2003 06:05 AM

nice man. At least you got a good reference actually having one huh?

I was gunna make a guitar, but not ready for one yet, But it looks nice. Its still in the works so nothing major to comment on yet.

I-Iybrid 23-12-2003 02:34 PM

Yea, still quite abit to do. Gotta fix the bottom part of the neck, where it meets the body. Make the strings, and basically convert it all over to sub-ds. Then texture, of course :)

Looks good and has nice proportions. I was going to comment on the part where the neck meets the body, but it seems you are already aware. If you're converting that to sub-ds you probably could have got away with using a lower polycount because of the way sub-d's work.

I-Iybrid 23-12-2003 03:37 PM

Well, all together, its less than 1000 polys (quads, not tris). I myself thought that less than 1000 polys is pretty good (for me atleast). :)

Gotten anything else done or just chatting.

Ya, I made the pickup selector. :)

twisteddragon33 24-12-2003 11:46 AM

How are you going to make the strings? Basic cylinders or what? I noticed youve been avoiding them so far. Or putting them off.

Alan 24-12-2003 04:21 PM

strings would be the easiest part, just extruded circles along curves and then you could animate the curves if you had to.

hey that's pretty good - i was going to try to make a guitar at some point, nothing fancy like a prs but probably just a strat or something. a lot more stylized and cartoony but it's all the same basic idea. i like yours a lot, it looks nice. psyched to see what it'll look like in subd when the edges of the body will be smoothed out. did you just use the create poly tool to make the form of the body?

twisteddragon33 24-12-2003 07:23 PM

knowing hybrid he prolly extruded.:)

Nem 25-12-2003 04:43 PM

dont forget the pickguard and the strap knob thingy

its lookin nice man :)
maybe its the angle but the neck looks a bit short

I-Iybrid 25-12-2003 05:34 PM

I dont know how Im going ot make the strings yet. cant decide if im going to extrude, or make a curve, and use a tube script i have. soulcialism, yea, i just used the create poly tool for evertying, then basically extruded faces here and there. very simple stuff. :)

Nem, this one dosent have a pick guard. As for the strap knob thingis, done. :)

twisteddragon33 25-12-2003 06:44 PM

strap knob. Guessing 6 sides cylinder. Scaled down on one side, extruded smaller on the other, then extruded into the threads?

Just thinking of how i might do it. Plan on making one soon.

And think you can send me that tube script next time your online. I could really use it for some projects.

Nem 25-12-2003 09:35 PM

what guitar is that? looks like a les paul but prs dont make them

I-Iybrid 25-12-2003 09:42 PM

Its a PRS guitar. The Tremonti SE model. No pickguard. :)

NitroLiq 27-12-2003 04:58 PM

Another way of making the body would be to draw the outline of it using curves, then bevelplus to create the depth. I've tried that with a les paul shape before and you can get fantastic results in a matter of minutes (including the bevels where the sides meet the face and back of the guitar and the smoothness a curvy guitar needs). Just another technique to add to the maya tool belt. :)

dave_baer 27-12-2003 05:29 PM

round out the body more. Too angular. I would add about 2 extra spans in the sides and pull them out slightly to give it a roundness, then smooth it and it should look really nice. :D

seeing this makes me want to get my old guitar w.i.p out and finish it off. Only problem is i can't find the file.

Update. Finally. Redid the body, using BevelPlus. Awsome tool. Very under-rated. Thnx Nitro for the info and all on it. Only thing to model is the strings. Its all Sub-D's now. :)

brian_ellebracht 28-01-2004 04:27 AM

I like what you have so far :) another Sub-D user.... :) Niiiice

I was going to model a guitar...but after seeing this one, well, I just didn't see the point :p

looks good, though

I-Iybrid 28-01-2004 05:01 AM

Yea, that guitars like :wow:. I mean, Im not a fan of Fenders at all, but damn....thats nice!

twisteddragon33 28-01-2004 04:24 PM

it is a good one. i think they have a tut at simply lightwave to how to make one. never checked it out though. I like the guitar, very smooth lines. Nice curves.

Quick texture job. Gotta make some adjustments. Plan on making the fretboard a darker wood, and make the inlays white. Make the pickups, machine heads, pickup selector, and maybe the volume/tone knobs chrome. Suggestions?

twisteddragon33 31-01-2004 03:01 PM

sounds liek you already got the plan. I think the hard parts going to be making it looks laquered.

Made the changes I mentioned. Hows she look? Except for the tone/volume knobs and the not so shiny body?

Akai 31-01-2004 10:46 PM

just really dark

should the tuners be so slim?
