How do I render an animation in Maya so the background is transparent. And...

If I am rendering in tiff format do I need a special program to sequence the images together again?

I'm want my object to look similar to the house in the opening of MTV's CRIBS. It shows only the outlines of the house. I assume I render lines. How do I go about doing this?
