My first experience with 3D was with Bryce 4. It was very easy to get results. It was designed for terrain though, so it was limited with modelling and similar. At least booleans...

Yeah, I read about it there too. I doubt it will be a desktop. SGI seems to have no idea how to sell desktops these days, their Virtu desktops (rebranded BOXX kit) didn't even last a year.
