I know this might sound a bit sad but before Alias Wavefront's website became Alias's website you could download a collection of Maya desktop images.

Sadly, I cannot find them on there new website. Does anyone know if they are still avaialble or if they have a copy of them - I was rather attached to them... yes I know I am a sad old git
