After a bit of reading - I decided to ditch the 5950 and go for a GeForce FX 5900 as the price difference is not reflected in the speed/quality as far as I can see.
Maybe I can get a 'proper' 3D card sometime in the future..?
With the money saved I got an Audigy 2 soundcard and some 5.1 speakers... 3 Weeks wait now...
