That looks like a nice laptop. The only things that I would watch out for are the ATI graphics card which I have heard some people recommend against, and maybe the screen size.

I was going to go with a Intel originally, but a lot of the reviews seemed to favour AMD. This article on Intel and AMD dual cores was pretty helpful:

As I said, this stuff is way over my head so I spent a lot of time scratching my head and looking stuff up on wikipedia.

I have to wait for a month or so before I can pick up my second copy of maya, so it may be some time before I can let you know how it handles.
