i don't see what's wrong with doing that

what you should do is before you go and make set driven keys on a big model and spend hours and days setting up the perfect sequence, you should try it with something small

just have an object go towards another one and make that other one react
it'll save you a lot of time rather than making a giant awesome model only to find that it doesn't work where you want it to work
