The geforces are hit and miss with Maya, so you may be kicking yourself with it.

If you are not a big gamer, then spend the extra money for a Quadro or FireGL. These will give you better performance in 3d applications as they are geared to OpenGL, not DirectX which the gaming cards, Geforces for example, favour.

Make sure you do your homework by searching google, and look for people's issues with certain graphics cards. We had Geforce's at our studio, and they had many problems. The new Radeon's that we have installed seem to work just fine however.
