That just looks like the typical effect low resolution has on a fluid. Thanks a lot! Yes, it was just the resolution being "stuck" at 50, for some reason. I also had noticed that my mental ray had disappeared in Maya. Tried re-activating it in the plug-in manager, and it didn't work anyway. So I bit the bullet and reinstalled Maya from scratch (which took less than 5 minutes), and now everything works again. Thanks for the replies!
