thanks guys - thinking about it now I subconsciously dialed back on the blur a bit when mixing in the zdepth pass, i didnt want the detail in my textures to go after spending so long creating them!
That reminds me many years ago following a tutorial that at the end said put motion blur on a vehicle, I just spent a week fine detailing it just to see it vanish with the motion blur
