You can render animations via the new "render sequence" option (its under rendering in the rendering menu set). It's not a batch render though so not only do you have to have Maya running and eating up resources, it'll also lock up the program, grinding any work you're doing to a stand still. They just want you to get a taste so you buy Arnie.
