SCRATCH THE ISSUE I FIGURED IT OUT ON MY OWN!!!! just to let anyone know who is reading this i solved it by using layers, i didn't know you could so instead of putting my reference on the main thing without a layer, i jus created a new layer and changed it to a reference and voila! Thanks for the info about editing curves also...
