You need to download the quick time player and view the videos, the all the videos will help you in the ple all maya is basicly all the same way, just view the videos and get an insight on how to do it. as far as mel scripting(not sure on what you trying to do) If what you've been told and dont work for you, Im not sure on how to help you with out a picture of you object.
