Hrmmm... I had a renderview crash bug as well for a while. Reinstalled Maya and kept the default settings and it works fine now.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. Make sure you have the latest drivers, and it would hurt to try reinstalling Maya so that Maya is installed into the video environment and not the other way around. Other than that, check on the ATI site for any issues realting to that card. They always have something posted there regarding conflicts. But from what I've read and heard, the FIRE GLX1 should be a superb card to use with Maya.

Mmm. Come to think of it, you might want to give us some insight as to the rest of your system. RAM, CPU, etc. Maybe its not the card? Hrmmmm. user added image
