I was having the same issue and I was able to locate and solve the problem. In userPrefs.mel there was a line of code towards the beginning of the file: -iv "EEexprEdTextEditor" 0 Simply change the 0 to a 1 and save the file. Reopen Maya and the problem should be solved! Thanks slypojo. Saved me restoring my prefs once again.
