I probably would give Ernie ball, Slinky tops, heavy bottoms a go, there a nice balance, think there 10's - 52's so you get the fat low's and sitll have a nice thin string for any solo stuff, if youve got a floating bridge going that low, you might need to fiddel with the bridge and the intonation just to make sure its on.

With low tuning you need to have higer guage strings as lower ones flap about and slap the fretboard.

As for the guitar, I aint a clue, i'm a fender man myself
