Well for the blobby one, I would suggest blobby particles
(F1 > Particle render type > blobbies)

For the liquid in the cube, seeing how you only have Maya 4, you might wann check out this tutorial, it might help you:

Otherwise, a plugin called "realflow" would be perfect for that.

When you can get Maya 4.5 Fluids, you will be able to do that
