zBrush has the advantage of changing between division levels, will sculpt at any division level, and show the effects when you change between division levels.

I tried to get clever with Maya once, a couple months back; I smoothed my model, sculpted some of the geometry, then using the smooth's construction history to reset the divisions back to "1"...however, from that point on, the Sculpt Geometry tool never had any effect on my model, either the unsmoothed version of the model, nor after smoothing it again.

But at least one "pro" is that Maya did calculate the changes that I made on the smoothed model, and adjused the position of my vertices on the low-res model; that goes to show that my plan half-worked :p
