I know it may seam like a lot of horse-power, but I own a small video production company, and we are now venturing into 3D - I have been using Lightwave for about a year, but I am also a full time studant taking animation and in class we use Maya (my professor told me about this site) so even though I have been using 3d for a little while, I am very new to Maya. I must say that I am becomming a Maya convert as I learn more about it! I just don't like the rendering system, but other than that I think it is great! and props to the tut's online here! I am working on the Mech, and it is great!
