that's a pretty confusing explanation, and drawing all over the picture didn't really help. can you post a wireframe of your scene and then a render, with an explanation of what you want?

unless you really want to see your ibl sphere in your render then i'd say fill your 'empty black space' with something, so then it's no longer empty and you won't get the black.
