UV Mapping a elongated cube

Question: I made a polygonal cube which I stretched out into a rectangular box Anyway, I want to have the uv map file not distort the shapes of the planes that make up the polygon. I've tried messing with the options in the Automatic Mapping, but it always shows up as 6 square faces (instead of rectangular faces). How can I prevent this distortion.
