I think the easiest way to do it might be )v('s way. Duplicate the torso of your character and delete the faces to trim it to a shirt. Then use the scale tool to enlargen it a bit so it's away from the body and tweak the CV's or Edge's to get the look you want.

Just my opinion. Cool looking character tho!
