Hey, I'm using an FX 5600 and having similar problems with displaying UI elements (particluarly the framerate and polygons).

Maya 6 becomes almost unusable when you are unable to check how many verts or faces you've selected simply by checking the display.

There have been odd ways that it comes back - I'll post what I find and hope that someone has an actual answer for yourself (and possibly myself) in the interim.
