They kinda need to be, too large of a space can make the sound bounce too much, any extra crap in there can also cause the sound to be impure

Acid hit the nail on the head. What always made me curious was the bubble textures on the inside of sound booths, then I found out those also help absorb sound waves.

Ah, was thinking it would be huge because of the booth size... Any particular scale you're working to?

And yeah, all the foam stuff they use is to absorb sound so it doesn't bounce, along with black curtains, shaggy carpeting, and so on user added image
