Default Alfa wont work

Not sure if it a Maya or Photoshop thing but when I make an Alfa channel as a tga file it wont work the way its suppose too. How do I make the black part Opaque or see through?

Not sure what you're doing wrong. White should be transparant, and black opaque. Make sure in the hypershader that the Out Transparancy of the file node is going into the transparancy of the shader node.

if you are importing these files in Photoshop then setting the layer as Screen instead of the default Normal should work.

I'm fairly certain it's the other way around... white opaque, black transparant.

If you're using photoshop 7.0, I believe there was a bug in the alpha output. I believe it was fixed in the PS 7.1 patch.

I can't seem to select alpha channels on the mental ray render settings, is this correct?
