is there a bi ped fpr maya. or something like this.

nothing built in that I know of. There are skeletons you can download from the net, but I usually just make my own.

theres this amazing plugin called skeleton works, found right here:

its the best plugin ive seen for skeleton building in maya

NEM is right. Skeleton Works is very sofisticated plug-in. I spoke with its author(or I think he made this plug DD) Bert van Brande about it and it looks very simple but very powerfull and flexible ...

It's pretty cool. It can really speed up the skeleton process.

theres also another one called autorig somewhere, that isnt as good i dont think, its very very complicated as well
