Default Playblast... doesn't work

I have a very basic keyframe animation (using joints) with a very basic model. What I want to do is export the animation into an mpeg-4 file (I have the xvid codec), and tried to do this using playblast. It doesn't work however. Not the whole "only does 12 frames problem", which seemed to be quite common after some searching. Mine reads "could not open or create movie file". It still does this after I reset the defaults in the playblast settings. Any ideas?

EDIT: While trying to fix a different exporting error, I deleted the history (very very substantial I have to say). Playblast still doesn't work, but now a pop-up window is also displayed (in addition to the other error). It reads: "Statsfile not found!". Just an FYI before I start looking into it.
