Default IE Problems

I have a problem with IE. I can't open IE icons from the desktop, or anywhere.

I tried to install IE6 and somthing went wrong so i uninstalled IE5, but it wasent compleatly removed...anyway, now i cant uninstall it as it's 'classed' as not being on the computer, but i cant install IE6 as it say's i have to uninstall IE5, somthing which i cant do. I can only open IE5 through the main desktop icon, then file> get the point.
