Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Pan, Zoom, Rotate

Ok this might seem like an odd question, but i've always been under the impression that it goes as follows.

alt + left mouse = rotate
alt + middle mouse = pan
alt + left & right mouse = zoom

And unless i've had some sort of brain explosion and forgotten how i've been using maya over the last year... then the controls have changed for the zoom to alt = right mouse (and that's it)

Surely i've not gone insane and maya is to blame for randomly changing this on me?

haha.. no your not insane! those are the right buttons. if you have no custom hotkeys made or anything then there should be a file in your documents and settings > my documents > maya > something else folder that you can delete and then everything shuld be better. but im not really that sure which one its is. sorry i didnt help all that much.. and all that i told you was that your not crazy and to basically wait for somebody else to answer your otherquestion! user added image

mine are like that except alt + left & middle to zoom. i'm in 4.0, though, so perhaps that's it.

In Maya 4.5, the navigation controls are as follows:

Tumble = alt + LMB
Track = alt + MMB
Dolly = alt + RMB (in 4.0, alt + LMB + MMB)

Rotate, pan, and zoom are very different camera moves. user added image

AFAIK, you cannot change these at all. They are hardcoded into the program.

No worries. Alt+LMB+RMB still works in 4.5. user added image
