Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

see through floor

Hey - I am working through one of the projects in the learning maya 7 Foundation books. I have just added a planet on the outside of this room. when I render the planet can be seen through the floor. The tutorial told me to reverse the normals on the faces of the room and also turn on backfaces, so does it have something to do with that? I tried messing around with them, but no luck. It also happens with the ceiling.

Any ideas?

Here is another shot from a different angle. From this angle you can see one half of the room. What's going on?

Did you make the floor using a cube then cut the faces out you didnt want? I think I ran into the same problem and fixed it by Booleaning out two cubes to make my 3Q room...

I think it has something to do with how it recognizes the crack between the faces of the original cube...but im not sure...

actually it's just a regular cube with the face extruded and made transparent. It looks fine when i do an IPR - but not on a maya software render.

Thanks for helping.user added image

It reminds me of like plane clipping you see in a lot of games. Like where edges between polygons are not seemless resulting in gaps which are visible from some angles. I am not sure what really is the problem, but just wanted to toss that out there...
