Pivot point symbol?

when i press the insert key on my keyboard to move the pivot point on regular geometry, the usual symbol for the insert pivot point which is a circle with a solid circle on the inside has changed to a weird figure 8 symbol, what does this mean and how do i get the regular symbol back?

thanks

I don't think I've seen that situation before. What version of Maya do you have? Can you post a screen shot?
