Thx for the comments, its quite quick to model the dam thx to the great reference images...

I am or was working on the Dynamics and how best to get the implosion from the Meteor and then explosion from the water escaping. I have a rough idea and I will go forward with it once I get a semi decent rig running to support my indevours.

On sadder news, I had 2 machines, the first: 2 x 2.8Ghz Xeon and 3Gb Ram died about 1 month ago and I have had to switch to the back up PC: 1 x 2.6Ghz P4 with 1Gb RAM, and Maya is a joke (maya 7); it runs like crude oil down a slight gradient. Now that one is playing up and is powering off, with what I think is an overheating issue.

Good News is I have £600 coming to allow me, by Tue or Wed, to get new components so I should be up and running on a more stable PC soon. Estimated Friday March 7th.

I am hoping it will be a:

Athlon 64 x2 6400+ with 4Gb Ram

I already have the ram, so whoopeee. Oh, even tho it's a 64bit processor, I am staying at 32, before somrone asks :p

Well Im back with my system (zzooooooooooooooooom)

Here is an intial blast test. meteor hits wall and comes in, pressure of water pushes it back out...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSzHt0uc-_w

As you can see, there are no collisions set up, and I think I may have to shatter the peices I have shattered...

Onwards and upwards..

not bad R@nSiD user added image
It looks like two separate actions at the minute - the impact and then the explosive like effect throwing the pieces out. If you get the second part happening as the first part is underway then it'll make it more realistic

Thx Folks...

Yeah went back and had a look, and it kinda impasts and then explodes. Lucky its just to get timing sorted.

Had work over the last 3 weeks, so this has had no work done to it and I may not meet the deadline. But I will try my hardest.

Just getting ready to blow the dam model.

Very nice!

I guess there's nothing impossible in Maya in good hands.
The blast test looks really familiar... Reminds me of Generals' bunker busting bombs with the two phased explosion.
Keep it up everyone! I'm looking forward to seeing some results!

Thx, im learning atm. And realflow is a real helper. Easy to use and everything is pretty much handled automatically (when it comes to collisions

Yey, Progress!

I think the decrease in water pressure if too quick, and the water should be foamy, But the flow looks really good user added image .

That is only the partcles, theres no texturing or anything, realflow doesnt handle that

OK the start of the realflow simulation is taking longer to get in place. I have to get roughly 500,000 particles into a bed of water and then release that through the damn break and into the canyon beyond.

I have currently got 350,000 roughly particles in already, but as I dont have a super computer I have to wait. This is due to the simulation have to calculate every single particles effect on each other, so quite a big one.

I think this should be ready to put into an initial state, and run tests from there.

Export the meshes and then start the long phase of compositing, and this is the bit I am worried about. I have never done 1 ounce of compositing, so tips would be gr8 user added image
