question about implementing gifs

How can I put a gif with transparency in a scene?

I've tried projecting it on a plane and it looked ok, but maya doesn't render it...

I'm trying this because I want to put a picture of a person behind the windows of a building I've modelled with maya.

uses tifs with an alpha channel. Gifs are for the web and that's where they shall stay! user added image
