cv curve help

i guess its not really cv curve help it could be anything, anyways, on the tutorials it seems reletively easy for the creator to place cv's onto the spot he wants in the perspective mode, but when i do it ussually the cv ends up way behind where i place it, is there some setting im missing or something like that, help appreciated.
