3D Paint Tool, Clean Painting

Hello,

I'm using Maya 8. This question relates to the 3D Paint Tool.
Often when I use this tool to paint on my 3D object, the paint will appear in areas I intended to paint but also appear in areas I didn't painted. I'm sure many of you have had this issue before.

I heard there was an option in the Misc tab, Protectively or UV Texture options. By picking UV Texture you avoid getting the distorted paint in unwanted areas.

I'm not sure where to find the Misc tab for the above options.
If anyone knows a way to avoid unwanted paint, please let me know.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

You need to have your object UV mapped correctley to use the 3d paint tool, (in Maya 6 to auto uv you would go to polygons->texture->Automatic Mapping) if you have a look in the help file for automatic mapping i'm sure youll find the option.
