Comp freezing during MR Render?

Hello!
Well, I've been having this issue ever since I reformatted my computer. During a Mental Ray render, it gets to a certain point near completion, then my whole computer freezes. I contacted my video card manufacturer with no response until 1/03/05 because of vacation time, and I'm going to try Maya support next, but I doubt this is a strictly Maya issue. Anyone have any idea what could be going on? It seems like it freezes when the finished image pops up, but it did it while I tried a batch render, also. Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer! (I wouldn't normally post this until after using Alias support, but my cousin wants his restaurant render ASAP). :p

System:
Pentium 4 3.06
RAM: 1076 MB
OS: Windows XP Pro SP 2
Maya 6.0.1
Radeon 9600 128

Hmmm. Tough one. Could be a resource problem when it gets to the post rendering stage. Try rendering the same file in using hardware mode. If it works, then try it again in MR but with default sttings. If that works, keep building up until it freezes. I know it sounds like a pain in the ass to do, but I'm pretty sure it's going to have something to do with the MR sttings.
