Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Modeling Jay's Concept "Freighter"

WElp, heres a start..not much yet, hadn't planned on starting this till tomorrow...got bored so spent about 15 minutes blockin gout some basic shape's just to get the idea in my head a bit better..
Not really much to crit at the moment.. i know the normals are screwed, wasnt really worried about that as i'll most likely model totally new geometry over the top of this when i get into it better..But, for the hell of it here it is..
Lemme know waht you think...
and Jay, if i'm getting anythign wrong with the basic concept..nows the time to tell me..LoL..
Heres Jay's concept..
Screens to follow

I have to stick up for myself as an amateur. While doing the haunted house tutorial I saved after just about everything time consuming... although I'm sure if I was more experienced it wouldn't be as time consuming as it was for me
Edit: And like stated above, it's a shame because it was looking pretty good.

heres just a few random views of the entire model as it is...
first one is just half the model, the rest are the complete thing.

Its getting its 'duuuuuuude' factor now for sure. Im liking it.

I always get concerned with models when I begin them, always wondering whether or not it will turn out as good as the concept drawing. This works.

My only little, itty-bitty gripe is the poly that needs a tweak on the top front of the hull. I think it should follow the shape up and over in an arc.

G: have a field day man, add more detail as you see fit

Cheers
Jay

Have attached this with what I mean. Also where the arrows are pointing at the edge of the hull add two more rows of loops for a harder edge around the outside.

Best
Jay
