Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Speed modeling- week- 2006/01/22 - Humanoid Skull

initiated by vladimirjp in this thread -> https://forums.simplymaya.com/showthr...5&pagenumber=1

we decided to start speed modeling sessions. Because there has been asked for something organic for the first one I make this suggestion:

Humanoid Skull

Something else I´d like to add or remove is the competitive thing. Let´s make it a session and not a challenge. Everyone is invited to post his/her results in the same thread. C&C is ok but there will be no winner and no looser. Time is 3 hours - less than that would be fine also. Announced time is for modeling only. That means UVmapping, rendertime etc. is not included. Deadline of this session is sunday evening. Hope this is ok for most of you people here.

happy modeling!

time: 2'32 hours
software: maya

I know! this looks like some comic skull. but it wasn´t intended to.. I´m quiet happy with it tho, cause my biggest weakness is time. this might be my first finished model.

plz note to POST Wire Shots [low rez and High Rez]
along with shaded view. no need for clay renders,
this is strictly a modeling thread. [i say this b/c ppl will flood the thread with white wash FG renders...
so screen captures and wires should suffice

yours is looking pretty good vlad and cool you modeled the jaw as well. I wasn´t able to complete that in time. allthough this thread was not overwhelmed by joining people I hope to see more speed modeling here more often. I experienced it as a real enrichment to modeling skills - like focusing on the substance (I tend to get lost in detail.)

hehe. yea. not too many joined.

but its cool. now i have a base skull in my model library.
i can build on it and tweak it a bit.

maybe next week we can do a male/female torso or a hand.

or a creature of some sort.

this took me this long cuse i was working on a friends laptop running xsi. and my workspace is so different from his because he only animates. i was looking all over to find the tools i usually use and have hotkeys to. :p

good stuff tho.

i hope in time we can do animation timelapse. sort of like 10 sec club.user added image

Nice skull vlad. Looks like something in my World History book in the section about mummies lol.
