Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

*REQ* Bend Modifier Help

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble using the Bend deformer. I have made a thin, long box (Polygons) and I selected it and attached a bend modifier to it. My delima is this, it does bend. I want it to bend in the middle longways so as to create a "half a tube" effect. Does this make sense? I have tried to rotate the deformer and adjust the envelope and upper and lower limit but to no avail. Could someone hel me out on this one. I am sure this is an easy one to figure out. Thank you so much!!!!

Is this what you mean?
I did by creating cube, wedge tool, extract tool.

Not exactly

Thank you for the response but no. I do not have MAYA at my desk but imagine this.

1. Create a polygon cube.

2. Scale it so the height is thin and the width is long... Like a thin 2 X 4 piece of wood. (but a bit wider and thinnner)

3. I am trying to bend it in the middle (long ways) so that the polygon makes a "U" shape".

I wish I could post an example. I hope this helps. If not I will try to post an example this evening. Thank you again for your post and help.

you could make a curve in U form and loft it with a circle/cube/whatever form.
in polygons the best way I can think of is just extruce several times in the bend directions and adjust a few vertices to make it look a bit smoother instead of edgy.

Make sure you have enough divisions to allow a bend.
