Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

six sides of the cylinder splitting open like a flower

is there a split edge tool in maya 5? I have a 6-sided cylinder (see below piccy) and i need to have the top split apart while the bottom remains attached.....like the drawing attached

I don't think there are any tools like that, however what i would do is select all of the edges on the top, go to edit polygons -> extrude edge, then pull the edges out and scale them however youd like.. That work?

This is done with Edit Polygons->extrude edge, with curve to control how the cylinder open. Division is set to 5 to get decent curvature

But unfortunately in the extrude edge with curve, you need to select each edge and corresponding curve.
